Contemporary art gallery, East Projects, is proud to announce an exclusive one night only performance with emerging artist, Trevon Latin on March 24, 2020. The invitation-only art performance by Trevon will begin at 6:15 PM at East Projects located in a townhouse at 165 East 64th Street, New York, NY 10065.

Trevon Latin, current Yale University Master of Fine Arts student, will debut his latest performance titled, “Remnants,” at East Projects. Trevon’s full-gallery performance and installation will include seven of his works of art. He also will completely transform East Projects, adorning the interior walls in magenta paint and vibrant glitter. The gallery’s garden will be enclosed in burlap and feature sewn, cloud-like sculptures that will be suspended from the ceiling. During the piece, Latin will perform as his alter ego, Shaturqua Relentless, singing his original compositions. The performance will also include garments designed by the artist and his choreography performed alongside dancers to demonstrate the current climate surrounding identity, class and race.

When discussing his work for this upcoming performance, Trevon Latin shares, “Comfort, narrative, sentiment, and warmth are words that I’ve come to think of when pursuing piecing/quilting. I have been using these techniques as a conduit for self-reflection and a way to understand myself and the world around me. I’m interested in having the conversation of Identity Class and race, as close to my own terms as possible. So, I’ve turned to developing my own language to access these topics. Through performance, image-making, world-building and sculpture, I’d like to progress this language to a plane where I’m having dialogue with my ancestors and sharing my personal experiences with the world.”

Previous art performances by Trevon Latin include “CELICE” (link to view performance) where Latin demonstrates the anxieties and oppression from outward appearances through colonial-inspired garments and movement influenced by Southern Folk and Vogue as well as "Repententence" (2015) (link to view performance) where Latin evokes emotions from his turbulent relationship with the church through movement, burlap gargoyles, visages and monuments. For these performances, Trevon not only develops his own musical compositions, but creates dramatic and intricate dresses as well as sculptures made of burlap to invoke strong emotions from the viewer.
